Mental health support for Ukrainian refugees


The project of mental health support for Ukrainian refugees, based in Reykjavik, Iceland, provides daily free psychological service for Ukrainian refugees in the native language. The service is available on-site in a quiet room in Reykjavik and anywhere globally online.

  • Free mental health service for Ukrainian refugees
    Olga Khodos
    Psychologist, Psychoanalyst. Olga is the only professional in Iceland who provides free psychological support to Ukrainian refugees in the native language. Since March 2022 have been conducted by Olga alone over 2500 hours of personal sessions. She is a nominee for the Presidential Award for her contribution to Public Health.
  • Free mental health service for Ukrainian refugees
    Konstantin Stroginov
    Assistance, communication, fundraising. Konstantin is responsible for maintaining comfortable working conditions for Olga and her wards. Since the service is free for Ukrainian refugees, Konstantin is also responsible for fundraising to keep the project afloat.

Treatment

  • Quiet room close to downtown
    The room was generously granted free by the good people of Neskirkja church.
  • Flexible schedule
    It´s available all working days, from morning to evening, and visits are by appointment.
  • 5-6 appoitments a day
    Each visit, on-site or online, takes 1 hour. Online sessions are also held during weekends.
  • Native language
    We provide psychological support to Ukrainian refugees in the language they can express themselves best.

Achievements

  • Over 2500 hours of private meetings since March 2022. And counting.
  • March - December 2022: running the Family center for Ukrainian refugees.
  • October 2022: funded by Geðhjalp — Icelandic Mental Health Alliance.
  • March 2023: funded by Velferðarsjóður Barna — Children´s Welfare Fund.
  • April 2023: Olga Khodos nominated for Lýðheilsuverðlaun 2023 — the President of Iceland Award for contribution to Public health.
  • June 2023: funded by Thorvaldsenfélagið — the oldest charity organisation in Reykjavik, aimed to protect women´s rights.
  • December 2023: funded by Landsbankinn — an Icelandic bank, awarding the most significant projects in the field of social development.
  • March 2024: funded by Landlæknir — the Directorate of Health, a governmental agency to promote and maintain health care in Iceland.
  • May 2024: funded by VIRK — the Icelandic Vocational Rehabilitation Fund.

Psychological support for Ukrainian refugees in Iceland is a volunteer activity without stable remuneration. We always appreciate financial or any other support.
